Ukrainian Film Premiers in Shanghai
Shanghai International Film Festival 2012 will feature a premiere of the Ukrainian film The House With a Turret. The film is also included into the agenda of the East to West film festival in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic.
The script for the The House With a Turret was written by Eva Neumann based on Friedrich Gorenstein’s autobiographic short story of the same name. The film was shot in the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa. The motion picture is starring Albert Filozov, Kateryna Holubyeva, Mykhaylo Veksler, Vitaliy Linetskyi, and Maria Politseymako. Nine year old Dmytro Kobetskoy, who is being raised at Odesa orphanage, played the leading role in the film.
The House With a Turret is a tragic 1944 story of an eight year old boy. His mother’s untimely death leaves the boy all alone, surrounded by strangers on the train. The people around do not notice the boy’s tragedy, for them life goes on at its regular pace. Therefore, the child has no other choice but to grow up in one day. He does not even know the name of the city where his incurably sick mother was taken off the train. All he can remember is that there was the house with a turret nearby the train station of the city, where his mother stayed forever.
