Formula 1 Powerboat Competition Will Be Held at the Kyiv Sea

Formula 1 Powerboat racing – Formula One UIM World Championship – will take place at the Kyiv Sea located near the capital of Ukraine on July 21-22, 2012. Ukraine hosts Formula 1 on Water (F1H2O) for the second time already. Ukraine has acquired the right to host the championship at the international water motor sports conference in Monaco.

Same as last year the powerboat competition will again take place at the so-called Kyiv Sea near Vyshhorod, Kyiv’s region. In 2011, the event lasted for the three sunny days at the Kyiv Sea and gathered about 60 000 visitors. There the teams from China, Italy, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, and the U.S. tested Ukrainian waters for the first time in the history of power boating sport.

F1H2O first started in 1981 and has a tradition of arranging for its teams to compete in 13 venues around the world each season. This year, Ukraine holds the honor to provide one of such venues. The tracks for racing are normally around 350 m long. They feature multiple turns that significantly add to the excitement as the boats move at a speed of up to 240 km per hour.
