Cinthia Marcelle’s Exhibition to Launch in Kyiv
Young Brazilian artist Cinthia Marcelle will have her solo exhibition at Kyiv’s PinchukArtCenter starting October 29. Last year Marcelle won the first prize of the Future Generation Art Prize 2010, organized by PinchukArtCenter.
The See to Be Seen show of the Brazilian artists will feature a new specially produced film. The new work displays a carpet, which covers a hidden landscape of dust. The installation is created by using ordinary everyday objects and industrial materials and is a result of a topological research conducted by the author. The work starts from the simple gesture: hiding the dust under the carpet, promises the official Web site of PinchukArtCenter.
The second work to be presented in Kyiv is a short film TheCentury produced in collaboration with the filmmaker Tiago Mata Machado. The film is about the joy, brought about by destruction. “For me, The Century is an image of an epoch being dismantled, an image of its ruin. In this dialogue confrontation with Tiago, I usually test the limits of the disorder of creation, our works are less controlled – it is the freedom of working in partnership”, stated Cinthia Marcelle.
According to PinchukArtCenter, Cinthia Marcelle is the winner of the first Future Generation Art Prize 2010. She received USD 60,000 in cash and USD 40,000 for investing in the production of a new work. Additionally, Marcelle’s art works were presented as a part of The Future Generation Art Prize @ Venice exhibition - an official Collateral Event of the 54th International Art Exhibition - la Biennale di Venezia. The project showcased 19 independent artists’ statements of the artists shortlisted for the Future Generation Art Prize 2010.
