Pinchuk Art Center Launches Anish Kapoor’s Solo ExhibitionThe Solo Exhibition of the British sculptor of Indian descent Anish Kapoor will be opened at PinchukArtCenter in Kyiv on May 7, 2012. The works by the famous sculptor have already been showcased at the international center for contemporary art; however, this will be Kapoor’s first solo display in Kyiv.

Days of Lithuanian Photography Unfold in UkraineUkraine’s capital city Kyiv will celebrate Lithuanian photography for three weeks in May 2012. The program of the Lithuanian Photography Days will feature photo exhibitions, video installations, and documentaries dedicated to famous Lithuanian photographers.

Mamaieva Sloboda Welcomes Folk FestZhyly-Buly (Once Upon a Time) folklore festival will open its doors to the folklore groups blending in a rich ethnic palette. Various nationalities that lived side by side with Ukrainians and managed to preserve their unique culture will make appearance at historical-cultural complex Mamaieva Sloboda.

Vyshyvankas to Blossom in TernopilVyshyvanka is a piece of traditional Ukrainian clothing. It is a richly embroidered shirt, usually made of linen. Normally vyshyvankas feature region-specific patterns. This particular type of shirt traces its roots back to the pre-Christian period. “Vyshyvanka is a national shrine. It symbolizes the connection between the generations. The shirt is passed from family to family and stored as a priceless treasure,” said one of the organizers of the fifth pan-Ukrainian festival of vyshyvankas and national costume Tsvit Vyshyvanky Yuriy Zhelikhovskyi.

Ukrainian Formula of Anatoliy KryvolapOne of Ukraine’s most celebrated and the most expensive representatives of contemporary art in Ukraine Anoliy Kryvolap will present his works at one of Kyiv’s museums. Notably, Kryvolap’s painting set a new record at the Phillips de Pury & Co auction that took place in London on October 13, 2011.

South Ukrainian Resort Alushta to Welcome Alley of ArtsThe Alley of Arts will appear in the sea shore park Prymors’kyi in the Crimean city of Alushta. The park features large pedestrian area where 15 sculptures will be installed to create the Alley. The sculptures will commemorate the history of the city.
