The 64th World Newspaper Congress to Take Place in Kyiv

The 64th World Newspaper Congress combined with the 19th World Editors Forum will open in the Ukrainian capital on September 2, 2012. The Congress will feature a session on developing leaders of the next generation of media companies, a session on ethics in journalism, and a gala dinner to promote networking among the participants of the Congress.

The conference will address the rapidly changing publishing environment due to transition from the ink-to-paper format of news delivery to the multimedia form of publishing. Traditional management can’t keep up with the opportunities provided by the newest technology, thus it is important to discover the right talent that will be suitable for the new environment and rapid pace of modern interactive journalism. One of the Congress sessions will provide advice from the leading industry experts on how to find and develop the human resources for the new media.

Another subject to be discussed at the Congress will be the ethics of journalism. The organizers want to discuss where to draw the line in the pursuit of stories that are in the public interest, if it is justifiable to pose as someone you are not or pay your sources. Another session in the Congress’ agenda will explore how today’s news organizations can ensure quality journalism, press freedom and maintain the balance between ethical standards and satisfying customers in times when the industry is under high pressure to gain audience.

The guests of the Congress will include the Head of News at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation Ulrik Haagerup, the President of the Organization of News Ombudsmen and Listeners and Viewers Editor at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation Jacob Mollerup, the standards editor of the Associated Press Tom Kent, the professor of journalism at the City University, London, Roy Greenslade, the Managing Director of the Archant Regional, the UK, Johnny Hustler, the Senior Architect at Microsoft in Norway Anna Kirah, the author and co-founder of the Executive Learning Partnership, the USA, Tom Cummings, the CEO/Founder of the David Butter Consulting, the UK, and David Butter.
