Kyiv Laurels in Kharkiv

Eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv will open its doors to the international festival of poetry Kyiv Laurels. Poets and musicians from Kharkiv, Kyiv, Moscow, and Warsaw will perform at Kharkiv’s new exhibition and festival platform – Yermolov-Center.

Yermolov-Center is located in the main building of Kharkiv’s Karazin University at the Svobody Square (Freedom Square).

On Friday, May 18th, at 3 p.m. the event will start off with an excursion to the Museum of Literature. At 6 p.m. Yermolov-Center will host the night of futuristic poetry entitled Bi Bo Bu. The poetry night will feature Ukrainian poets Oleksandr Irvanets, Bohdan-Oleh Horobchuk, Liubov Yakymchuk, Oleh Kotsarev, Rostyslav Melnykiv, Serhiy Zhadan, and Illia Rissenberg, as well as Russian artists Andrey Rodionov, Danil Fayzov, Yuriy Tsvetkov, Nikolay Zvyagintsev, Mikhail Ayzenberg, and Polish poet Marcin Sendecki. The band SVITER and Ivan Svitlychnyi will present their artistic creation – the Futuristic Reconstruction.

On Saturday, May 19th, at 5 p.m. the poets will perform at the Museum’s Night held at the Literary Museum in Kharkiv. At 6.15 p.m., in the yard of the museum, the guests of Kyiv Laurels will enjoy the rock concert featuring such bands as deliKate, Raskardaš Orkestar, as well as Serhiy Zhadan and the band Sobaka v Kosmosi. Later a movie by Agatha Vilchyk will be screened. At 7.30 p.m., back at Yermilov-Center, one can enjoy Russian poets’ (Andriy Rodionov and Katerina Troepolska) video poetry.

On Sunday, May 20th, Yuriy Tsvetkov, Nikolay Zvyagintsev, and Mikhail Ayzenberg will speak about the best Russian books of 2011.
