Jubilee Festival on Two Wheels

The 10th Grand annual bike festival Tarasova Hora will unfold in Ukraine on May 30 – June 3, 2012. This year the festival will take place in a different spot – at the Slavutych and Pereyaslavska health resorts, located near Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi (previously it was held in Kaniv and Cherkasy).

Tarasova Horawill last five days starting May 30th. The annual bike-fest usually takes up the first weekend of summer. The event will feature concerts by famous Ukrainian as well as foreign music bands: Mandry, TNMK, Tabula Rasa, Leprykonsy, and others.

In the last eight years the number of bikers coming to the festival increased from a few dozens to several thousands. Besides Ukrainian participants, a lot of fellow bikers from Armenia, Belarus, Croatia, England, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Moldova, Poland, and Russia come together for the event, reads the Web site of the event. This year the organizers also expect bikers from Kazakhstan, Switzerland and the UAE to join in.

In May 2002, Ashot Salvador first gathered his fellow bikers in the city of Kanev during the memory days of the most famous Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, when the picturesque town on the Dnipro River attracts thousands of people from all over the country and far beyond its borders to visit Shevchenko’s grave. That year the event gathered hundred bikers. Since then Kanev became the meeting point for the lovers of two-wheeled drive. Last year the festival took place in Cherkasy, the city 2.5-hour drive from Ukraine’s capital city Kyiv.
