Throughout the centuries the largest city of Ukraine Kyiv experienced many cultural eras. Today’s Ukrainian megalopolis combines various architectural, linguistic, and lifestyle traditions. Besides the numerous landmarks, monuments, and museums, the multicultural city has a great number of higher education institutions (nearly 200) and industrial sites. Kyiv is twinned with 37 cities – Rome, Chicago, and Paris among others.

The 10th Grand annual bike festival Tarasova Hora will unfold in Ukraine on May 30 – June 3, 2012. This year the festival will take place in a different spot – at the Slavutych and Pereyaslavska health resorts, located near Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi (previously it was held in Kaniv and Cherkasy).

During the EURO 2012 Kyiv will set up an extra fan zone Eurotown under the Druzhby Narodiv (Friendship of Nations in Ukrainian) Arch in Kyiv, near the European Square. This area is planned to offer the fan zone infrastructure in addition to the official one on Maidan Nezalezhnosti.

Traditional ethnic festival Kraina Mriy is included in the official program of the EURO 2012 European football championship. The ninth festival will take place at an open air stage in the heart of historical Kyiv — Spivoche Pole.

The international art festival Andriyivskyi Uzviz will celebrate the culture of Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital city. The Festival, among other things, will include many “artsy” activities as well as the Andriyivsky Uzviz music festival.

The international festival Goral Music Avia Bike Ukraine will take place in the western Ukrainian city of Uzhgorod on July 12-15, 2012. The unique festival will combine the atmosphere of a typical bike fest with various aviation features – an exhibition of aviation equipment, skydiving, and an air show.

The Borderline Culture Festival Folkowisko will take place on July 13-15, 2012, at border village Gorajec in Poland. The festival celebrating cohabitation of several nations will be aimed at discovering and appreciating the history and culture of the region.

A group of eco activists present an event aimed at popularization of goods made in Ukraine – With Care About All Things Ukrainian. The organizers want the attendees to pay special attention to food produced in Ukraine. They aim to promote high quality of food. It is a part of the pan-Ukrainian movement which brings the customers’ attention to the origin of food as well as its quality. The motto of the Sunday festivities is This is Not Apple, This Is Better!

The award initiated by the Polish Institute in Kyiv (PIK) in partnership with the Foundation Center for Contemporary Art in 2008 commemorates Kazimir Malevich, an artist of Polish origin who was born in Kyiv. The award is presented once in two years. The 2012 application is opened until October 31.

The global festival dedicated to life and culture of the western Ukrainian ethnic group of boykos – V Vsesvitni Boykivski Festyny – will take place in Turkivskyi district of Lviv oblast on August 1-5, 2012. Boyko communities from 32 countries were invited to the festival.
