World Festival of Ukraine’s Highlanders Unfolds Near Lviv

The global festival dedicated to life and culture of the western Ukrainian ethnic group of boykos – V Vsesvitni Boykivski Festyny – will take place in Turkivskyi district of Lviv oblast on August 1-5, 2012. Boyko communities from 32 countries were invited to the festival.

Festival Kozatski Zabavy (Cossack Fun) will take place in Mostyskyi area of Lviv oblast – in the town of Sudova Vyshnia on August 4-5, 2012. The festival will feature concerts, craftsmen fair, Cossack parades, presentations of Cossack organizations, sport competitions, a fire show, and workshops on everything from traditional embroidery to Cossack fighting techniques.

Annual Sorochyntsi fair will take place in eastern Ukrainian village of Velyki Sorochyntsi on August 14-19, 2012. The fair traditionally showcases the best food not only in the region but from all over the country. This year meat, dairy, bread, honey and water producers will present their best products along with goods for daily use – clothes and shoes, textiles, fur, jewelry, utensils, construction and gardening supplies, fertilizers, farming equipment, etc.

The 13th International Festival Polissya Summer With Folklore will take place in western Ukrainian city of Lutsk on August 22-26, 2012.The festival takes its name from the title of the region in northern Ukraine – Polissya. It is one of the largest in Europe swampy areas. The name of the region derives from Slavic word for forest.

International festival of culture and history Bylyny (Epic) of Ancient Kyiv of IX - XI century will take place in Kyivan Rus Park (34 kilometers from Kyiv). The event will feature over 700 experienced reenactment warriors from around the world.

Ukraine Hosts World Powerboat Championship

World Powerboat Championship in the class of F500 will take place in the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil on August 25-26, 2012. The first powerboat championship in Ternopil was held in the city 25 years ago. At least 31 teams from nine countries will participate in the 2012 tournament.
