The Ukrainian British City Club presents a Ukrainian Christmas Reception in London on January 17, 2012. The event will feature festive greetings from the Embassy of Ukraine, a special address from Ukraine Charity (London based charitable NGO), traditional Ukrainian Christmas cuisine, live performance of Ukrainian Christmas carols, and a Christmas raffle.

On January 22, 1919, the Ukrainian People’s Republic and West Ukrainian People’s Republic declared their merger in order to create a unified Ukrainian state. To celebrate the unity of Ukraine participants of the celebration at Kyiv’s Paton Bridge will create a human chain connecting the two banks of the Dnipro river – the right bank to the left one.

Traditional celebration of popular in Ukraine food – lard, or salo – will take place in eastern Ukrainian city of Poltava. Numerous producers of salo and meat will present their goods to the visitors of the festival. Everyone in attendance will have an opportunity to taste and buy some of the best local products – both raw and ready-to-eat.

A well-known Canadian photographer Jeff Wall will personally open his exhibition at PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv on February 4, 2012. He will also deliver a lecture on photography at the Taras Shevchenko National University (60 Volodymyrs’ka St., Kyiv) at 4 p.m. During his lecture 65 year old Wall will present his own creations and share the tricks he employs to create his art pieces. The audience will find out the story behind some of the artist’s pictures, as well as his artistic strategy as a whole.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov will present a public lecture at the University of Latvia during his official visit to the country. The Ukrainian official will discuss 20 years of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Latvia, as well as the integration of Ukraine into the European Union. The students and representatives of the media will have a chance to ask questions.

The jury will evaluate the drinks made by the celebrities and give out prizes.

During the three-day event the guests will get a chance to try out the magic of the love potion – the organizers promise to continue the established tradition of offering the magical drink at the festival.

Yuri Bender will present an address titled Ukrainian Football, Finance and National Identity on February 28, 2012, in London. The speech will examine latest Euro 2012 developments – whether Ukraine is ready to host the event. Yuri Bender will also provide an inside view on the current state of football in Ukraine. He will speak of the national identity of Ukrainians today.
