Despite the pressing anticipation of the successful outcome of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius on November 28-29, Ukrainian government decided to delay the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU. Deliberated decision was introduced by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the 21st of November and has immediately received an ambivalent reaction of Ukrainian citizens. Controversial news exploded on the Internet and finally embodied into the national outcry which was later named Euromaidan (European and Maidan – square in Ukrainian).

15th Day of Maidan: No-Confidence Vote Fails, People Demand Authority’s Reboot

Hundreds of thousands of peaceful protesters fled the main squares of Ukrainian cities in protest against the violent dispersal and merciless beatings of the demonstrators in Kyiv (Maidan Nezalezhnosti, November 30). Before Ukrainian riot police carried out inhumane orders the protesters urged Ukrainian president to sign the Association Agreement with the EU, after the bloodshed – people demanded president’s impeachment and resignation of the parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. People protesting in their cities around the country also demand resignation of local authorities (more so in eastern Ukraine).

Over Half of Poland’s Population Supports Ukraine’s EU Membership

Majority of the citizens of Poland – 54 percent – support Ukraine’s possible membership in the EU, according to the recent opinion poll conducted by the Centrum Badania Opinii Społecznej (Public Opinion Research Center). Yet, the Polish people consider the possible EU membership for Ukraine a remote possibility, reads the CBOS research as quoted by PAP. At the same time, one fifth of the polled citizens (20 percent) support fast joining the EU for Ukraine.

DW-Trend: 58% Ukrainians Support Joining the EU

The number of Ukrainians in favor of their country joining the EU has increased by six percent, informs Deutsche Welle. The poll, conducted by the DW-Trend, shows that 58 percent of the polled Ukrainians support eventual membership of their country in the EU. Approximately 31 percent of Ukrainians does not support the EU membership, while 37 percent of the polled citizens approve of the EU membership within the next five years.
