June 12, 2013: OSCE Secretary General Commends Ukraine’s Chairmanship
OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with Ukraine during its chairmanship in the organization. This was stated during Zannier’s meeting with President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara.

May 31, 2013: Ukraine to Receive Observer Status Within Eurasia Customs Union
Ukraine will receive an observer status within the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council - the governing body of the Customs Union (CU) of Kazakhstan, Russia, and Belarus. Such agreement was reached on May 29, at the Astana meeting of the leaders of the Customs Union countries and President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.
May 21, 2013: Ukraine, US Jointly Pursue Missile Destruction
Today Ukraine has opened the rocket engine airframes disposal facility in Dnipropetrovsk oblast. Its operation allows for environmentally friendly disposal of the RS-22 (SS-24) missile components and contributes to international security. The launch of the facility has been the result of negotiations between the U.S. President Barack Obama and the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych back in April 2010.

May 15, 2013: EU Commission Proposes to Conclude Association With Ukraine
The European Commission adopted the proposals for decisions of the Council of the EU on the signing and provisional application as well as the conclusion of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, reads the respective press release of the Commission. The political statement accompanying the proposals states: “It is now up to the Ukrainian authorities to address the outstanding issues in order to enable the signing of the Agreement. This would represent a historic breakthrough in EU-Ukraine relations.”
May 14, 2013: UK Believes Ukraine Belongs to the EU
“The UK continues to believe strongly that Ukraine belongs to the European family of states,” reads the joint press statement following Foreign Secretary William Hague’s meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara. In the document, the UK reaffirms its supports of the reform process in Ukraine. Additionally, both parties stated their intent to work on making the 3rd Eastern Partnership Summit in November 2013 in Vilnius a success.
May 14, 2013: EU-Ukraine Relations Progress Further on Amended Visa Facilitation Agreement
The Council of the European Union has approved ratification of the amended EU-Ukraine visa facilitation agreement. It is expected that the agreement will come into force starting July 1, 2013, said Ukraine’s commissioner on foreign policy and integration processes and representative to the EU Kostiantyn Yeliseyev.
May 13, 2013: Ukraine Has a Good Chance to Sign AA - Hungary Foreign Minister
“We think Ukraine has done a lot to meet the conditions voiced by the EU at the end of 2012,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary János Martonyi at the VI Forum Europe - Ukraine in Budapest, reports lb.ua. The minister expressed hope that the Association Agreement (AA) between Ukraine and the EU would be signed and the countries still in doubt would eventually vote in favor of the AA.
May 7, 2013: Gallup: Half of Ukrainian Population Considers Domestic Media Free
50 percent of the polled Ukrainians answered “yes” to the question “Do the media in this country have a lot of freedom, or not?”, according to the poll results of the well-known American consulting company Gallup. 33 percent of approximately 1,000 respondents answered “no” to the question, with additional 18 percent choosing the “don’t know/refuse to answer” option. Gallup compared their findings with the press freedom assessment by the Freedom House, where Ukraine was rated as partly free.

Commemorating 27th anniversary of Chornobyl accident members of the European Parliament Ms. Michele Rivasi, Ms. Corinne Lepage and the head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Ambassador Jan Tombinski came to Ukrainian town of Ivankiv to inaugurate a EUR 4 million EU-funded project to protect the health of the people living around the Chornobyl Exclusion zone today.

Ukraine-EU collaboration within the framework of the European energy strategy will allow both parties to successfully diversify sources of energy supplies. April 25, 2013: Danish, Dutch, Lithuanian, and Polish Ministers See Ukraine as Member of European Family
“The four of us see Ukraine as part of the European family,” said the Danish Minister for European Affairs Nicolai Wammen during the meeting with the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych in Kyiv on April 25, quotes Interfax. The meeting included foreign ministers of Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Poland - Linas Linkevičius, Frans Timmermans, and Radosław Sikorski, respectively.
April 24, 2013: OSCE Supports Ukraine’s Association With the EU
The President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Wolfgang Grossruck stated that the Assembly and Austrian government would support Ukraine in its association with the EU. During his meeting with the Prime Minister of Ukraine in Kyiv, Mykola Azarov Grossruck highly appreciated the reforms Ukraine was performing and thanked for taking into account the recommendations of the Assembly, reports the website of the Ukrainian government.

Ukrainian parliament has adopted two laws bearing changes that are required by the action plan on visa liberalization with the EU. New legislation is intended to streamline the country’s conformity with European standards, reported tyzhden.ua.

Release of the imprisoned Ukrainian politician Yuriy Lutsenko has been welcomed by a number of European politicians, including PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Füle, and Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski. Former interior minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko was pardoned by the President of Ukraine on April 7, 2013.
April 8, 2013: International Media: Ukraine Pardons Oppositionist Lutsenko
The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, Reuters, Deutsche Welle, Euronews and a multitude of other world media sources dedicated their news to the latest developments in Ukraine: President Yanukovych pardoned ex-minister Yuriy Lutsenko, who was serving a four-year jail sentence on abuse of office and embezzlement charges. Along with Lutsenko, President Yanukovych pardoned another ally of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko – the former Environment Minister, Heorhiy Filipchuk.
April 8, 2013: Lutsenko Release Nears Ukraine to EU Association - Polish President
The pardon and release from jail of the former two-time interior minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko is a step to restoring Ukraine’s image and will near Association Agreement signing, reckons the President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski. While on the phone with the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, President Komorowski thanked Ukraine’s head of state for pardoning the convicted Lutsenko.

April 4, 2013: Engaging Ukraine Is in Europe’s Best Interests – Romano Prodi
“Ukraine is important to Europe as a source of economic growth and energy security, as well as a bridge to Russia,” reiterates the former Italian Prime Minister and the former European Commission President Romano Prodi in his article for the Christian Science Monitor. The title of the article of April 2, 2013, reads “EU should welcome Ukraine as a partner for Europe’s own good”.
April 2, 2013: Ukraine Joins UN Protocol Against Illicit Firearms
Ukrainian parliament voted in favor of the law regulating the country’s joining to the UN Protocol against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Their Parts and Components and Ammunition, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. The document aims to create a complex international system of firearms trafficking control and promote cooperation between the participating parties. The respective decision has been voted in by 386 (of 415 present) MPs on April 2, 2013.
