European Investment Bank: Ukraine – Key Partner Among Eastern European Countries

Ukraine became the first out of all Eastern Partnership countries to sign a declaration of intentions with European Investment Bank (EIB) to support educational projects, reported Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sport of Ukraine (MESYSU) website. In addition to education EIB has been actively supporting Ukrainian energy and energy efficiency projects as well as transportation and infrastructure development projects.

Ukraine Arranges For Azeri Oil Supplies Starting 2016

Ukraine continues to diversify energy imports by making progress in negotiations with Azerbaijan regarding oil supplies to Ukraine and Europe. The first batch of Azerbaijani oil is planned to be shipped to Ukraine in 2016 through the Euro-Asian Oil Transportation Corridor, reported Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine.

Ukraine Receives EUR 600 Million for Nuclear Safety

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will provide a EUR 300 million loan for the comprehensive program of upgrading operating Ukrainian nuclear power plants. Ukrainian Firm Prepares to Explore Oil in Tunisia

Ukrainian company YNG Exploration Ltd received an oil exploration permit from the Tunisian Ministry of Industry. YNG Exploration Ltd obtained the right to research oil deposits south of the North African country. Should the enterprise be successful, Ukrainian company in association with Tunisian Company of Petroleum Activities (Entreprise Tunisienne d’Activites Petrolieres, or ETAP) will tap into discovered oil deposits.

Ukraine Will Export 4 Million Tons of Grain to China in 2013

Having received USD 1.5 billion credit from China, Ukraine plans to export back about 4 million tons of grain in 2013 calendar year. Such are the terms of USD 3 billion loan agreement between the Export-Import Bank of China and the State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine (SFGCU), reports korrespondent.net.

Ukrainian Gas Transporting System Is Europe’s Most Imortant – Günther Oettinger

“Your [Ukrainian] Gas Transporting System (GTS) is the most important in Europe, however, its maintenance and renovation requires considerable investments,” stated European Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger in his interview with kommersant.ua. Ukraine has to find the necessary funds taking into consideration its commitments to the European Energy Community (EEC), such as providing the third parties with an access to the GTS, added Oettinger. The commitment becomes especially important given the prospects of commercial shale gas production and reverse-flow technologies in Ukraine.

Ukraine Increases Its Energy Independence – Ukrainian President

To increase its energy security the country plans to improve its energy efficiency, develop alternative energy sources and diversify energy import, said President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych at the press conference dedicated to his three years in office. The inflated price of Russian gas affects the economy of Ukraine and causes the country to lose about USD 6 billion annually, according to the president.

Ukraine Pioneers Stem Cells Treatment Among CIS Countries

Ukraine became first among the Commonwealth of Independent States to grant state registration to the stem cell therapy. Ukraine licensed the treatment in three areas: chronic ischemia of the extremities, necrotizing pancreatitis, trauma and burns. This was reported at the Ukraine’s Ministry of Health conference on the progress in stem cell treatment in the last five years.

EU Commits EUR 610 Million to Ukraine in Macro-Financial Assistance

The EU agrees to provide balance-of-payments support to Ukraine within its policy instrument of macro-financial assistance. The total of EUR 610 million, provided under the program, is to complement financing supplied by the IMF. The respective agreement between Ukraine, and the EU was signed during the 16th Ukraine – EU summit, held in Brussels, Belgium, on February 25, 2013.

Ukraine to Build Two Bridges and an Airport in Turkmenistan

Having built the Atamurat-Kerkichi Bridge in Turkmenistan, Ukrainian engineering and construction company won three more bids to develop Turkmen infrastructure worth nearly USD 1 billion. The bids stipulate the construction of an airport, and ofan automobile and railway bridges. The news was made public during the official unveiling of the 1.5 kilometer bridge connecting the two Turkmen cities Atamurat (formerly known as Kerki) and Kerkichi on February 14, 2013.

Turkish Airlines Plan to Up Ukraine-Turkey Passenger Flow 40%

One of the world’s leading airlines, Turkish Airlines, plans to increase passenger flow between Ukraine and Turkey by 40 percent. In 2012, the annual passenger flow between the two countries exceeded 500,000 passengers, while in 2013 the airline aims to reach 700,000. Additionally, Turkish Airlines aim to open regular flights from Turkey to eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and from Ukraine to the Turkish capital Ankara.

Ukraine Says No to USD 7 Bln Bill from Gazprom

Ukraine has officially refused to acknowledge the USD 7.09 billion bill sent by Russian gas giant Gazprom in January 2013. Gazprom argues Ukraine owes the company money for the 16.7 billion cubic meters of gas Ukraine did not consume under the take-or-pay system, provided by the 2009 contract between the parties. Germany Pours Funds Into Ukrainian Business

The German banking group KfW will provide a EUR 10 million loan for investment projects in Ukraine and a EUR 2 million grant for the support of small and medium businesses, informs Ukraine’s National Bank. Ukraine Considers Importing Gas From Slovakia

Ukraine is exploring two additional options of reverse gas supply from Europe, stated the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Eduard Stavytskyi on January 18, 2013, not disclosing the said options. Ukraine Regions Vote In Favour of PSA With Shell

The Donetsk and Kharkiv regional administrations voted in favor of the production sharing agreement with the oil and gas company Royal Dutch Shell. The document features ecology, social and other requirements for the investor and regulates the relationship between the investor and the state. According to the agreement, Shell will hand over 31-60 percent of the extracted gas to the Ukrainian state.
