29th Ukrainian Fashion Week: a Peak Into Spring-Summer 2012 Fashion Trends
Kyiv, October 19, 2011. Ukrainian Fashion Week attracted the glances of the international haute couture fashionistas for the 29th time. 42 designers presented their pret-a-porter Spring-Autumn 2012 collections. The event featured a gala show of the renowned British-Italian designer Antonio Berardi and a catwalk by American celebrity Paris Hilton.
The 29th season of the Ukrainian Fashion Week (UFW) unfolded at Kyiv’s National cultural-art museum complex Art Arsenal on October 13. The program of the event featured collections by 42 famous Ukrainian designers, showcasing works of Lilya Poustovit, Victoria Gres, Elena Burenina, Alexei Zalevskiy, Viktor Anisimov, Tatyana Zemskova, Elena Vorozhbit, Liliya Litkovska, Svetlana Bevza, Christina Bobkova, Andre Tan, Iryna Karavay, and many others. “Participation in UFW enables designers to present their new collections …and helps them to prove their stability to the market players,” commented the main producer of the UFW Volodymyr Nechyporuk.
One of the highlights of the event was a catwalk by Paris Hilton, who demonstrated a bright yellow silk dress by the Ukrainian designer Andre Tan, who later joined Paris on stage. “The 29th UFW is remarkable for featuring high scale collections as well as attracting a large number of foreign guests. One could take notice of such a great number of foreign languages when walking down the lobby of the UFW’s main venue,” noted the Head of the UFW Organizing Committee Iryna Danylevska.
The famous designer Antonio Berardi demonstrated his collection for the next fashionable season. A collection of swimwear and lingerie, created by Jean-Paul Gaultier for La Perla, became another highlight of the 29th UFW. Together with the on-stage program, UFW offered a number of seminars, round tables, and presentations. One of the 25 most influential fashion experts according to The Time Li Edelkoort held a seminar and presentation Bliss. Spring-Summer 2013, during which she shared predictions about the fashion trends for the next couple of years.
This season’s UFW was a special one in the event’s history: the exhibition was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. The exposition was titled The Borders of Body and focused on the interaction of an artist with human body. It included 40 outfits by Ukrainian designers created between 1991 and 2011. The display also included photo and video materials.
