Ukrainian Arm Wrestler Defends His World Champion TitleKyiv, September 27, 2012. Ukrainian athlete Andriy Pushkar became the winner of the 2012 World Arm Wrestling Championship, which took place on September 10-18, 2012 in Sào Vicente, Brazil. He defeated his opponents winning gold medals for both left- and right-hand fights.

Two Ukrainian Sportsmen Recognized Among World’s Top 24Kyiv, September 18, 2012. Ukraine’s two-time Olympic champion and a multiple world records breaker (race walking) Volodymyr Golubnichyi became the latest athlete to be named among the 24 inaugural Members of the IAAF Hall of Fame. In June, 2012, another Ukrainian sports legend and pole vaulting world record holder Serhiy Bubka was named among the world’s top 24 sportsmen. IAAF Hall of Fame has been created to mark the year of the International Association of Athletics Federations Centenary.

16 Gold Medals for Ukrainian CanoeistsKyiv, July 19, 2012. The Ukrainian men’s canoe team took home a total of 16 gold medals in the European Canoe Sprint Junior & Under 23 in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal. Sweeping up eight of the 16 medals were Pavlo Altukhov and partners Andriy Rybachok and Yuriy Vandiuk. Rybachok and Vandiuk had an impressive start, finishing their first race with a 4.528 second lead on Poland.

International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Vice-President, International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member, National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine President and a sports legend Serhiy Bubka was named among the 24 inaugural Members of the IAAF Hall of Fame. Together with Bubka, IAAF Hall of Fame, which has been created to mark the year of the IAAF Centenary, simultaneously claimed the name of Sebastian Coe, Great Britain.

In her final bout with the two-time Olympic Champion Mariel Zagunis (USA) Kharlan managed to close out the bout, 15:13.

Best Female Shooter of 2011 – Ukrainian Olena KostevychKyiv, February 22, 2012. Olympic champion Olena Kostevych received the prestigious 2011 best female shooter award at the European 2012 Shooting Championships held in Vierumaki, Finland, on February 14-20. During the competition the Ukrainian team scored five gold, six silver and nine bronze medals. Members of Ukrainian team, including Galina Avramenko, Ganna Chehovska, Kateryna Gavriushenko, Mariia Kramar, Vladyslav Prianishnikov, won gold at the Championships in Vierumaki.

Men’s archery team from the Lviv region (Western Ukraine) set a new world record at the Ukrainian Archery Indoor Championships. Markian Ivashko, Yevhen Marchenko, and Yaroslav Mokryns’kyi scored the unbelievable 239 points out of 240. Female contestants Lidia Sichenikova and Polina Radionova set a European record among juniors (they scored 584 of 600 points each) at the same event.

Andriy Pushkar Becomes 11 Time World Armwrestling ChampionKyiv, December 8, 2011. A 26 year old Ukrainian armwrestler won his 11th title at the XXXIII World Armwrestling Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The winning Ukrainian sportsman Andriy Pushkar wrestled in the 110+ kg category and won gold medals for both left- and right-hand fights. Five other athletes from Ukraine also occupied top spots in the tournament in Kazakhstan.

Ukrainian Men’s Team Wins Junior World Championship in Beach Volleyball 
Kyiv, September 6, 2011. Ukrainian men’s team won the 11th annual double-gender FIVB Swatch Junior World Championships over the weekend in Halifax, Canada. 59 teams from 24 countries competed in the Championships. Scoring high in all seven matches, Ukrainians Sergiy Popov and Valeriy Samoday won gold, beating the Polish duo Kantor/Losiak in the final set.

Extreme Sports: South Ukrainian Yalta Hosts World Cliff Diving Finals 
Kyiv, September 5, 2011. The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011 finished the season in Southern Ukrainian resort city of Yalta over the weekend. 15 thousand guests witnessed the final seventh leg of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011 competition. The event culminated in crowning Gary Hunt, the UK, as the champion of the 2011 season.

Powerboat Competition Formula F1H20 Carves Ukrainian Waters at the Kyiv Sea for the First Time 
Kyiv, August 1, 2011. Over the weekend F1 H2O World Championship for power boating was held in Ukraine for the first time. The event lasted for the three sunny days at the Kyiv Sea and gathered about 60 000 visitors. The teams from China, Italy, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, and the U.S. tested Ukrainian waters for the first time in the history of power boating sport.

Ukraine to Host 32nd World Rhythmic Gymnastics ChampionshipsKyiv, July 21, 2011. Ukraine will host the 32nd World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in 2013. The respective agreement has been signed between the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the Ukrainian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation in Lausanne, Switzerland. The official FIG statement explains that Ukraine deserves the honor of hosting this major sports event being “a country that boasts such a rich Gymnastics tradition and has long been one of Rhythmic Gymnastics’ leading lights”.

Ukrainian Paralympic Swim Team Ranked Number One in the European Championships 
Kyiv, July 12, 2011. Holding the top position since the very start of the Berlin 2011 International Paralympic Committee Swimming European Championships, the Ukrainian national team became a winner with an overall result of 105 awards total, including 41 gold, 37 silver, and 27 bronze medals. Followed by the UK with 27 gold medals and the cumulative score of 83 awards, the Ukrainian team has become a confident leader of the competition.

Ukrainian team consisting of Olexander Onishchenko, Kateryna Ofel, Nagel Björn, Oleg Krasiuk, and Casio Rivetti won the 2011 international competition in horse racing that took place in the Polish Baltic port of Sopot on June 9-12, 2011.
