Ukrainian Fashion Week attracted the glances of the international haute couture fashionistas for the 29th time. 42 designers presented their pret-a-porter Spring-Autumn 2012 collections. The event featured a gala show of the renowned British-Italian designer Antonio Berardi and a catwalk by American celebrity Paris Hilton.

On a chill Saturday night on October 8, 2011, approximately 60 thousand guests gathered in Kyiv, Ukraine to witness the official opening of the main Ukrainian stadium Olimpiyskyi that will host the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship. The opening of the National Sports Complex featured performances of 2,500 volunteers and 500 professionals including the world famous circus Sonics and a renowned pop singer Shakira.

The premium class sports complex Olimpiyskyi in the heart of the Ukrainian capital reopens after a major reconstruction. One of the world’s largest sports venues will host the final match of the top level football event – the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship. The opening featured many high profile guests including the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, Ukrainian football star Andriy Shevchenko, boxing world champion Vitaly Klitchko, as well as pop diva Shakira, who gave a concert at the stadium.

Ukrainian men’s team won the 11th annual double-gender FIVB Swatch Junior World Championships over the weekend in Halifax, Canada. 59 teams from 24 countries competed in the Championships. Scoring high in all seven matches, Ukrainians Sergiy Popov and Valeriy Samoday won gold, beating the Polish duo Kantor/Losiak in the final set.

The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011 finished the season in Southern Ukrainian resort city of Yalta over the weekend. 15 thousand guests witnessed the final seventh leg of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011 competition. The event culminated in crowning Gary Hunt, the UK, as the champion of the 2011 season.

The symbol of one of the most unconventional electronic dance music festivals in Europe “KaZantip” – a yellow suitcase – was obtained by thousands of guests this year as they had gathered for the 19th annual meet. “KaZantip” habitually took place in Popovka village in Crimea, located at the Black Sea shorein Southern Ukraine. The festival lasted for over a month and ended on August 27, 2011. Numerous electro music stars entertained the audience of the festival.

The Second International Balloon Festival “Air Adventure” kicked off on the same day as the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. The event takes place in a small town of Vasylkiv, located about 30 miles south of Kyiv.
